One of the most exciting things at the CES 2012 last week was the Samsung’s Transparent Smart Window.
The Transparent Smart Window is a 46” LCD panel (1366×768 px) that really could take the world of tablets to another level. While it can do everything that your ordinary tablet or computer screen does, it’s also lucid so that you can look through it and see what’s outside your home or wherever you choose to put it. Thanks to its solar cells and the lucid screen it’s really eco-friendly since it uses the solar cells to charge it (partly), the ambient light as backing light during daytime and when it get’s dark it has two built in lights for that as well.
The Transparent Smart Window is built so that it looks like an ordinairy window for the outside viewer, in other words: they can’t see what’s going on on the screen.
This makes wonder though, how stupid would it look for the one on the outside, seeing someone pulling and dragging its hands back and forth on, what for them looks like an
ordinairy window.
Anyway, one other feature they pointed out last week at the CES 2012 was the virtual blinds.
The virtual blinds works just like ordinary blinds so you can decide how much of the outside light you want in your home. They didn’t mention anything about how the window will look from the outside wile using the blinds though, and because of the fact that it doesn’t show any other applications from the outside one could guess that that’s also the case for the blinds (but hopefully not).
It’s unfortunately too early to get a word on the price, or even estimate when this will be available in stores.
iPhone 4 vs Samsung Galaxy s2 – which one’s better?

The Samsung Galaxy s2 and the iPhone 4 are two mobile phones that have generated a lot of discussion, and many people are comparing the two mobiles with one another. Both the iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy s2 are really popular, and even though the Samsung Galaxy s2 is newer, the iPhone 4 and its successor the iPhone 4s are still flourishing in the market – so which mobile phone is better?
If you compare the technical specifications of these mobile phones, on paper the Samsung Galaxy s2 is the better phone. What makes this mobile phone so fast is the fact that it has two processor cores and a processor speed of 1.20 GHz.
One possible negative perception of the Samsung s2 is that it is big, with a height of 12.53 cm, a 4.27” screen, a width of 6.61 cm and a depth of 0.85 cm, although it only weighs 116 grams.
The iPhone 4 has Apple’s own A4 processor, which is powerful and energy-efficient. The phone has a 5 megapixel camera with an LED flash and can record video in HD format. The IPhone 4 is smaller, with a height of 11.5 cm, a width of 5.9 cm, a 3.5” screen and it weighs 137 grams.
As I said earlier, if you’re just comparing specifications the Samsung Galaxy s2 is the winner, with a longer battery life, higher screen resolution and a camera with more megapixels, etc. See the specifications below:
But a mobile phone’s more than just a set of specifications! And if you compare the phones in real life, that’s when you really notice the differences, with Apple in particular usually highlighting factors such as processor efficiency over and above the specifications.
If we take a look at how good these mobile phones are for companies, the iPhone 4a’s iOS 4 operating system works well with Microsoft Exchange and standard-based servers for the wireless delivery of calendar, contacts and e-mail using push technology.
Using VPN control with industry standard, you can have secure access to private company networks, and as soon as you switch on your iPhone 4, iOS 4 is very secure. All programs run in a secure environment, ensuring that no program or website can access your data from other programs. The programs that request location information must first be approved by you. You can also enable passwords so that unauthorised people cannot access your iPhone, and you can set your iPhone to delete your information after too many failed login attempts.
In order to protect your computer, iOS 4 supports encrypted network communication and encrypts information when the device is in standby mode, during transfer and when performing backup to iTunes.
The Samsung Galaxy s2 also uses encryption. The S2 is the world’s first Android smartphone to use powerful encryption hardware. Thanks to the powerful encryption hardware, you don’t need an extra security program.
Sybase Afaria Mobile Device Management and Microsoft Exchange Activesync are the integrated services that use their own functions and mechanisms to secure important private information and company information, thus contributing to encryption support.
Not only is Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync secure, it’s extremely smart for companies in particular, as it keeps all information updated, such as: calendar, contacts, e-mail and job details. This makes everyday life more efficient and simpler.
With Sybase Afaria Mobile Device, you have support for the policy and restrictions for Android ActiveSync clients, and there is also the facility to monitor compliance with company policy, to delete or lock phones and to synchronise at maximum security.
But having said that, let’s return to the original question, iPhone 4 vs Samsung Galaxy s2 – which one is better? I’ve come to the conclusion that the best mobile phone is the Samsung Galaxy s2, although the iPhone 4 is perfectly fine, with effective programmes and useful functions to serve as a business phone and also as a private phone. It’s really just a question of personal taste.
