iPhone apps – Top 9 photos

Instagram – Snap a photo with your iPhone, apply one of the smart filters that can be chosen and then send the picture to Twitter, Facebook and/or Flickr with a simple press of the button. You can also follow your favourite people directly on Instagram where you can also post comments and give the thumbs-up or thumbs-down  to people’s pictures.

Photosynth – With Photosynth, you are able to take seamless 360° panoramic images. Start the app, select the frame for the first image in your 360° image series, move the mobile to the edge of the new picture you want to take and align the frame with the edge overlap from the first image. Photosynth then senses this and automatically shoots a new frame as soon as you’ve stopped moving the phone. This process continues until you come back to where you started (i.e. after 360°). When you have the images you want ready, Photosynth automatically stitches them together and, hey presto, you have a panoramic image of your entire surroundings.

Tiltshift – Tiltshift is an effect that became really popular last year. What it does is that it applies fake blurring over an image leaving in focus only that part of the picture you choose, causing the eye to perceive it in high detail (producing an optical illusion of a miniaturised scene). Naturally it is possible to utilise this for greater artistic effect than merely by highlighting some feature in a picture. The effect is really cool.

Oldbooth – Do you sometimes wonder how you would have looked if you had lived in a previous time? Oldbooth enables you to choose between more than 60 different mask styles. Simply import a photo of the particular face you wish to move back in time and have the app handle the rest. You can then navigate around the different masks to see the person chosen in a whole host of different semblances.

Fatbooth – Import a photo of a friend’s face, press the button and see your friend morphed into a supersized version of his or her true self!

-          http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fatbooth/id372268904?mt=8

Camera +  This is an app loaded with a mass of functions to make it as simple and user-friendly as possible to take beautiful photos. It has everything from an extended digital zoom to a stabiliser to achieve enhanced focus to a function that enables you to adjust the exposure yourself. This is a good app for those of you who aspire to taking slightly better pictures with your iPhone.

Hipstamatic – The king of analog camera filters. I would go so far as to assert that this is the best app I have tested to reproduce the look of analog photography in my iPhone.

iSwap faces – Swap the heads of two different people. Really simple to use and watch the crazy and hilarious results you can achieve.

-          http://itunes.apple.com/se/app/iswap-faces/id305557780?mt=8

Night camera – If you want to take photos when it is dark outside then Night Camera is a sensible choice. The camera in iPhone is rather slow in operation; this means that images taken in the dark are often somewhat fuzzy owing to one happening to move when the shot is taken. What Night Camera does is to wait until one is quite still; then it shoots the frame automatically as soon it senses that the iPhone is no longer in movement.

The difference between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4s

Apple’s latest iPhone is called the iPhone 4s and is the successor to the iPhone 4. It is interesting to see just how much these two phones do actually differ from one another.

Let us start by taking a look at the size. Both the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4s are 11.5 cm tall, 5.9 cm wide and 0.93 cm deep and have a 3.5″ display. There is a small difference in the weight: the iPhone 4 weighs 137 grams and the iPhone 4s follow-up weights 140 grams – three grams more. They are very similar in appearance; both mobiles are available in black or white.

The biggest differences between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4s are in the camera, battery life, a new processor and a new operating system. The camera in the iPhone 4s has been improved. The 4s now has an 8-megapixel camera instead of the 5-megapixel variant found in the 4. This means that the follow-up has a camera with 60 % more pixels, and the pixels have been designed with a higher charge capacity than in the iPhone 4 camera, which means that the iPhone 4s camera can gather even more light, which in turn leads to higher resolution and more detailed photos. As well has having more megapixels, the iPhone 4s camera now has a specially developed lens with a larger f/2.4 aperture which lets in more light, so photos look brighter and colours are more precise and even thanks to the advanced hybrid filter, which shuts out harmful infrared light. The iPhone 4s camera also has an improved backlit sensor, advanced colour reproduction and reduced motion blur.

The battery life for the iPhone 4 permits a call time of up to 7 hours on the 3G network and up to 14 hours on the 2G network; while the iPhone 4s permits a call time of up to 8 hours on the 3G network and up to 14 hours on the 2G network.  The iPhone 4′s standby time is up to 300 hours, while the 4s has a standby time of up to 200 hours. Hence the 4s offers one hour more call time on the 3G network and one hour less standby time.

As most people know, the iPhone 4 uses Apple’s own A4 processor, which is powerful and energy-efficient, while the processor in the iPhone 4s has been upgraded to the A5 processor. The graphics with the A5 processor are up to seven times faster than the A4 processor, which means that games – for example – are more true to life and run more smoothly, and graphic-intensive apps work even better on the 4s. The operating system has also been upgraded to iOS 5 in the iPhone 4s.

To sum up, the differences between the iPhone 4 and its successor, the iPhone 4s are as follows: the camera, processor, battery life and operating system. The iPhone 4s should take better photos and be faster!

iPhone 4 vs Samsung Galaxy s2 – which one’s better?

The Samsung Galaxy s2 and the iPhone 4 are two mobile phones that have generated a lot of discussion, and many people are comparing the two mobiles with one another. Both the iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy s2 are really popular, and even though the Samsung Galaxy s2 is newer, the iPhone 4 and its successor the iPhone 4s are still flourishing in the market – so which mobile phone is better?

If you compare the technical specifications of these mobile phones, on paper the Samsung Galaxy s2 is the better phone. What makes this mobile phone so fast is the fact that it has two processor cores and a processor speed of 1.20 GHz.

One possible negative perception of the Samsung s2 is that it is big, with a height of 12.53 cm, a 4.27” screen, a width of 6.61 cm and a depth of 0.85 cm, although it only weighs 116 grams.

The iPhone 4 has Apple’s own A4 processor, which is powerful and energy-efficient. The phone has a 5 megapixel camera with an LED flash and can record video in HD format. The IPhone 4 is smaller, with a height of 11.5 cm, a width of 5.9 cm, a 3.5” screen and it weighs 137 grams.

As I said earlier, if you’re just comparing specifications the Samsung Galaxy s2 is the winner, with a longer battery life, higher screen resolution and a camera with more megapixels, etc. See the specifications below:

But a mobile phone’s more than just a set of specifications! And if you compare the phones in real life, that’s when you really notice the differences, with Apple in particular usually highlighting factors such as processor efficiency over and above the specifications.

If we take a look at how good these mobile phones are for companies, the iPhone 4a’s iOS 4 operating system works well with Microsoft Exchange and standard-based servers for the wireless delivery of calendar, contacts and e-mail using push technology.

Using VPN control with industry standard, you can have secure access to private company networks, and as soon as you switch on your iPhone 4, iOS 4 is very secure. All programs run in a secure environment, ensuring that no program or website can access your data from other programs. The programs that request location information must first be approved by you. You can also enable passwords so that unauthorised people cannot access your iPhone, and you can set your iPhone to delete your information after too many failed login attempts.

In order to protect your computer, iOS 4 supports encrypted network communication and encrypts information when the device is in standby mode, during transfer and when performing backup to iTunes.

The Samsung Galaxy s2 also uses encryption. The S2 is the world’s first Android smartphone to use powerful encryption hardware. Thanks to the powerful encryption hardware, you don’t need an extra security program.

Sybase Afaria Mobile Device Management and Microsoft Exchange Activesync are the integrated services that use their own functions and mechanisms to secure important private information and company information, thus contributing to encryption support.

Not only is Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync secure, it’s extremely smart for companies in particular, as it keeps all information updated, such as: calendar, contacts, e-mail and job details. This makes everyday life more efficient and simpler.

With Sybase Afaria Mobile Device, you have support for the policy and restrictions for Android ActiveSync clients, and there is also the facility to monitor compliance with company policy, to delete or lock phones and to synchronise at maximum security.

But having said that, let’s return to the original question, iPhone 4 vs Samsung Galaxy s2 – which one is better? I’ve come to the conclusion that the best mobile phone is the Samsung Galaxy s2, although the iPhone 4 is perfectly fine, with effective programmes and useful functions to serve as a business phone and also as a private phone. It’s really just a question of personal taste.
